The Sky Blues will face the Blue Sharks in a crucial Group H encounter.

Two-time world champions Uruguay will face Cape Verde in their second Group H fixture of the FIFA World Cup. With the battle for a place in the knockout stages intensifying, both teams will be determined to secure a positive result and strengthen their position in the standings. Uruguay opened their campaign with a draw against Saudi Arabia despite dominating large parts of the game, while tournament debutants Cape Verde stunned many by earning a point against Spain.

Although Uruguay possess superior quality on paper, they cannot afford to underestimate Cape Verde. Marcelo Bielsa’s men will be aiming to bounce back with an improved display and claim all three points after a disappointing performance in their opening match. The South American side knows that victory here could prove vital in their quest for qualification.

Cape Verde, meanwhile, enter the contest full of confidence after their impressive showing against Spain. Head coach Bubista praised his players for their discipline and determination, and his side demonstrated that they are capable of competing with the tournament’s elite. Their defensive organisation was one of the standout aspects of their performance against La Roja, and they are expected to adopt a similar approach against Uruguay. With both teams eager to boost their knockout hopes, this promises to be a highly competitive and intriguing encounter.

Match Prediction

Uruguay may be the stronger side on paper, but Cape Verde have already shown that they are capable of troubling some of the tournament’s biggest teams. Marcelo Bielsa’s men know the importance of securing maximum points from this fixture, especially with a challenging clash against Spain looming next. A victory here would put Uruguay in a much stronger position in the Group H standings heading into that crucial encounter.

Prediction: Uruguay 1-0 Cape Verde

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026.[1] It will be jointly hosted by sixteen cities—eleven in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada. The tournament will be the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by three nations, and the first to include 48 teams, an expansion from 32 previously.

The United 2026 bid beat a rival bid by Morocco during a final vote at the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow. It will be the first World Cup since 2002 to be co-hosted by multiple nations. With its past hosting of the 1970 and 1986 tournaments, Mexico will become the first country to host or co-host the World Cup three times. The United States previously hosted the World Cup in 1994. By contrast, it will be Canada's first time hosting or co-hosting the tournament. The event is returning to its traditional Northern Hemisphere summer schedule after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was uniquely held in November and December.

As the host nations, Canada, Mexico, and the United States all automatically qualified. Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan, and Uzbekistan will all make their World Cup debuts. Argentina is the defending champion, having won its third World Cup title in 2022.

Preparations for the tournament have drawn controversy, particularly over United States immigration and visa policies affecting qualified teams and their fans, Iran's participation during the 2026 Iran war, and FIFA's use of dynamic ticket pricing.
